Plasticizer

What are plasticizers?

Plasticizers or plasticizers are relatively non-volatile organic substances (mostly liquid) and when combined with plastics or elastomers, they help to improve the polymer. Plasticizers increase the flow and thermoplasticity of a polymer by reducing the viscosity of the polymer melt. Plasticizers are generally the result of esterification between acid and alcohol.

Application of plasticizers:
Plasticizers are among the most widely used additives in the plastics industry and are usually cheaper than other additives used in polymer processing. Plasticizers are often used in PVC. PVC is used in the production of a wide range of goods as follows:
Unplasticized PVC or hard PVC: pipes and fittings, door and window profiles
Plasticized PVC (plasticized PVC): industrial and gardening hoses, wire and cable, PVC film, flooring, wall paper, shoes, car interiors

Classification of plasticizers:
Plasticizers are classified based on the acid used in the esterification process. The materials that are most used as plasticizers today are:
1. Phthalates: DOP
2. Terephthalates: DOTP
3. Aliphatics: DOA
4. Trimethylates: TOTM
5. Citrates: ATBC
6. Epoxies: ESBO
Khorram Plastic Company of Tehran, by applying the world’s latest technology and using expert staff, has been able to take an important step in domestic production of three widely used plasticizers and no need to import these products. The plasticizers produced by Khorram Plastic Company are as follows.
